2023- A year of change and charitable causes

Continuing on from the excellent work carried out in years previous, 2023 saw some big changes, but really positive ones starting with the name change. What once was Thurso Community Market is now Thurso Food and Craft Fair. We hosted events in September, October, November and December.

As a team we have managed to raise more than £600 for charitable causes close to our hearts. The charities that were chosen were:
Homestart Caithness (for their little Moments Campaign)
Thurso Community Café &
North Highland Women’s Wellness Hub.

The money raised comes from stallholder fees. Of course, monthly we support the Royal British Legion – Thurso Branch by renting the space plus a small donation was given as thanks for their continued support of our fairs.

Alongside this, we have also covered the cost of the use of the kitchen space for when charities are serving teas and coffees, resulting in higher amounts of funds raised for them. The groups involved in serving refreshments were:
• Girl Guides- Thurso
• Homestart Caithness
• Thurso Community Café
• RDA Caithness

Although, giving back is not all about the money. We have also given back by allowing groups/organisations to take part in our community spotlight. This was a new initiative for 2023 and was very well received by participants and visitors to the fair. The organisations supported were:
• Alzheimers Scotland
• Nhs Highland – Caithness Redesign
• North Highland Women’s Wellness Hub
In December, we hosted our ever popular Christmas event, in line with the town’s fun day. At this date, we hosted a santas grotto – run by Thurso Youth Club as well as the Girl Guides who came to sell some homemade produce.
We can only achieve this with you. You the stallholders, you the visitors, you the customers….YOU. So THANK YOU.
